Traffic Citation Information

PA Act 18 of 2024 (amending Title 75, § 6329, also known as Paul Miller’s Law) requires Pennsylvania State Police and local police to collect and report data on self-initiated traffic stops.

Key Aspects of Act 18 (Title 75 Reporting):

  • Data Collection Requirement: Mandatory for all self-initiated traffic stops as authorized under 75 Pa.C.S. § 6308.

  • Required Information: Data includes the reason for the stop, driver's perceived race, ethnicity, gender, age, if a search was conducted (and if it was with consent), and the results of the search.

  • Purpose: To enhance transparency and analyze data related to traffic enforcement.

  • Timing: The provisions went into effect in 2024, focusing on traffic stop data and, in related updates, tightening restrictions on the use of interactive mobile devices while driving.
